Shekels for the evil deeds

Unlike the politicians
Who rendered homage in requiem’s consignment.
Now they stand beneath the gallows
Their hypocrisy exposed.
Church and State let childhoods die
All innocence upended:
Men shielding men – hand in hand
Wreathed in power’s dark assumptions.
And they still mourn
What death and taxes have bedevilled
That noble sinner
Weeping on his crippled knees:
Waiting for the act of god
That felled his wanton body.
A prince is dead!
His crimes precede him.
The devil awaits his game of chance
Rocking on in crooked time
In the salty tang of strict eternity.
In the depths of sin and sulphurous desiring.
