There is a flutter near your dark eyes
When those soft lashes
Like silken threads
Ensnare my heart.
Beauty is a wanton thing
Arresting into silence
The drone of daily cares.
Why do we gape
At the downy skin
The dazzling smile
That curves suspense
Into a sigh?
Not envy
But evanescence
That one moment of shining grace
Lustrous
Fast flickering into consciousness
The heart of darkness
Where all time passes
And all memories conspire
To balance regret with desire.
