The hate that stalks this virtual world
Threads its poisonous buds
Trellis like
Across the mesh of angry men.
Like sibilant snails
Their viscous trail
Sticks its murky bile
Upon our body politic.
These lonely men
Savagely corrupted
On meretricious slogans
Pass, with the help of friends
Across the dark web
Where roiling claims
Are met - with violence
Where the energy of hate
Caustic in its dense simplicity
Urges us to abandon ‘the other’
And damn our neighbour’s friend.
The ‘other’ – always that singular word:
Jew, gypsy, queer and crank
Muslim, greenie, peacenik
Feminist and refugee.
Here in these southern climes
The course of such broiling anger
Is fed on white supremacy
White washed
From Christianity’s dark stave
Where nation states and ethnicity
React against
Connective humanity
As though all the tears
Of Christendom could not wash away the stain
That hateful gods empower.
Those who salute the slaughter of babes
While raising their riverside G&T
Bitterly craft an ageless disease
That bears a crooked gaze on fractured love.
Hitler adored his shepherd dogs
And blondchen babes
And turned a naked eye
To death’s relentless racial scythe.
The miscegenation of cares
Corrals the wilful ‘other’
Caged unto death:
Those snarling guard dogs
Tear at their cauterised, paper thin flesh.
When common humanity is so denied
Then all the world is compromised.
The hate that stalks this virtual world
Threads its poisonous barbs
Now bloodied in revenge
Across the mesh of angry men: regardé!
